Hornady 85003 Lock N Load Classic Reloading Press Kit review

Looking to reload bullets tailored made for accuracy and precision? The Hornady Lock-N-Load Classic Reloading Kit conatins pretty much everything you need to reload those high-quality, accurate hitting reloads. Although a single stage press, it is made for speed and ease. the Lock-N-Load Classic press allows you to switch dies to a new caliber and begin reloading again in seconds, much like the Hornady progressive LNL. As expected, the unit’s automatic priming system is very much hands free and simple to work with.

The unit is slightly angled, which provides easier access to your cases. The Lock-N-Load bushings let you adjust your dies height once in the beginning, then lock it into place for every time after that you reload bullets. The CNC machined die and ram openings create near perfect alignment of the ram and die, so cases are lined up properly with the dies at all times. This sort of precision is what Hornady has been know for, and means greater accuracy at the range. The strong, rigid frame also provides the stability necessary for precision reloading. With the Hornady 85003 Lock-N-Load Classic, this single handloading press can handle multiple calibers with little trouble. There is no need to purchase multiple presses so you can leave your dies in place. Your dies will remain exactly as you set them, within their Lock-N-Load Die Bushings.

Looking Further

Working with someone who had never worked a reloading press before, and I had no problems teaching them how to reload bullets with this press at all. In fact, I had to do very little teaching. I did a lot of research before buying this particular press, and looked at a lot of brands. Particularly, I was looking for a press where I could reload low quantities of high quality rounds. I was looking to reload the most accurate rounds imaginable. I was setting out to put store bought rounds to shame. Back to the press itself; The Lock n’ Load system of the Hornady is what lured be to their press in the first page. I absolutely had to be able to set the dies in the collets and then know they are going to be perfect for the next time. This is a big time saver and really builds confidence in repeatable reloads of bullets. Aside from a active hand loader, I am a machinist by hobby as well as an Engineer by trade. So I know a little about precise machinery and close tolerances, and I am impressed that Hornady has come out with such a precise press kit at such a low price. Another big plus is the depriming function when resizing the brass, which is common for pretty much any reloader. The deprimer works great, and conveniently drops the spent primers in the small trash bin, which is provided. I have not had to chase any primers around on the floor. The rest of the kit is just great also, with decent quality components for the beginning reloader. If you are starting out in this hobby, this is a great way to do it, and you can grow for quite a while before needing something more complex. The huge variety of dies from Hornady is also a huge plus. If you want to get into actively reloading bullets, and on the edge about the Hornady 85003 Lock N Load Classic Reloading Press, you have nothing to lose, and only money to save by reloading.
